A seemingly ordinary hotel encounter reportedly turned into a horrifying killing after a 27-year-old man, Ali Haruna, allegedly murdered and beheaded a woman identified as Aisha in Girei, Adamawa State.
Haruna, a native of Kaleri in Maiduguri, Borno State, was arrested last Friday over the gruesome incident at a hotel in Girei, on the outskirts of Yola, the state capital.
The suspect, who resides in Digno community, Fufore Local Government Area, reportedly made a chilling confession while speaking with newsmen at the Adamawa State Police Command headquarters in Yola on Monday.
According to the report, Haruna said he met Aisha for the first time at the hotel. He allegedly told investigators that they smoked Indian hemp and later had sexual intercourse before the encounter took a deadly turn.
The suspect reportedly admitted killing the woman and cutting off her head.
But his alleged action after the killing has added another disturbing dimension to the case.
Haruna reportedly claimed that he drank the victim’s blood after killing her — an act that could fuel suspicions of a possible money ritual, although the police have not established any ritual motive in the case.
The bizarre claim is now expected to form part of the investigation as detectives work to determine what prompted the killing and whether the murder was connected to any ritual activity or other motive.
Police spokesman, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the arrest and said Haruna remained in custody while the command continued its investigation.
Nguroje said the suspect would be prosecuted after investigators conclude their work.
The police have also assured that every aspect of the case would be thoroughly investigated and that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
