A 63-year-old man, Tony Joshua Popoola, has allegedly killed his 38-year-old wife, Ayanronke, and stabbed her daughter during a violent domestic dispute in Ikorodu, Lagos.
The horrifying incident reportedly happened on a Sunday morning when Ronke was preparing to leave for church.
Ronke, a tailor, gospel singer and choir leader at her white garment church, was said to have been getting ready for worship when her husband allegedly demanded intimacy.
But the woman reportedly refused, explaining that she was already dressed and needed to get to church on time.
What began as a disagreement allegedly turned deadly.
Popoola reportedly grabbed a knife and attacked his wife, stabbing her repeatedly.
Hearing her mother’s screams, her daughter(pictured) reportedly rushed into the room in an attempt to intervene.
But the attacker allegedly turned the knife on her, stabbing her before fleeing the house.
He reportedly locked the door from outside before escaping with some important documents.
Neighbours who heard the commotion soon became suspicious and reportedly forced their way into the house.
Inside, they found Ronke badly injured and unresponsive.
She was reportedly already dead.
Her daughter, however, was still alive and was rushed to hospital for treatment.
The survivor later reportedly gave investigators an account of the attack.
Popoola, who was said to be involved in customs clearing and had reportedly spent considerable time travelling between Nigeria and Austria, was nowhere to be found after the incident.
His reported international travel history subsequently heightened fears that he might attempt to leave the country.
The incident has left Ronke’s family mourning while her daughter recovers from the injuries allegedly inflicted during the attack.
The case has also renewed concerns about how seemingly ordinary domestic disagreements can escalate into deadly violence.
