Two top Directors at Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) have faced the ill-consequences of allegedly approving the ‘All Eyes on Judiciary’ advertisement.
The controversial billboard advertisement in Abuja in veiled reference to the ongoing Presidential Election Petition Tribunal led to federal government’s dissolution of ARCON’s secretariat on Tuesday.
The approval of the advertisment has also cost the Director and Deputy Director Regulations of the council their job temporarily in order to ensure investigation into the matter is not compromised.
This is according to a statement the Council’s Director General, Dr. Olalekan Fadolapo released.
It read in part, “The council would set up a committee to investigate the circumstances leading to the ‘erroneous approval’ of one of the concepts of the advert and the breach of the vetting guidelines.
“Consequently, the Director and Deputy Director, Regulations have also been suspended. The suspension is to enable an unprejudiced investigation of the issue. The Advertising Standards Panel (ASP) secretariat, failing to diligently exercise its function as the gatekeeper of advertising, advertisement, and marketing communications, is hereby dissolved.”
