The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) said former Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Uche Nnaji, was arrested after repeatedly failing to honour its invitations over an alleged certificate forgery case.

Nnaji was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, while preparing to board a private jet to Abuja. He was later handed over to the ICPC.

In a statement on Wednesday, ICPC spokesman Demola Bakare said the commission obtained a Federal High Court order to arrest the former minister after he failed to respond to several invitation letters.

The commission said Nnaji is being investigated over alleged forgery of a University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) degree certificate and a fake National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate reportedly submitted during his ministerial screening in 2023.

The ICPC said it invited Nnaji through a letter dated May 15, 2026, which was delivered to his Abuja and Enugu addresses and sent to his email.

It said his continued failure to appear before investigators prompted it to seek a court order.

The commission disclosed that the Federal High Court in Abuja granted the arrest warrant on June 11, 2026, to enable investigations into the allegations.

Following his arrest, Nnaji was taken to the ICPC headquarters in Abuja, where investigations are ongoing.

The commission assured the public that the case would be handled in accordance with the law.
