Benue Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has attributed the high rate of violence bedeviling the state to religious leaders.
Recall that recently the governor accused unnamed politicians from the state behind the spate of bloodshed that characterized the state.
Speaking on the occasion of the June 12 Democracy Day celebration, Alia this time, laid the blame at the doorstep of some religious leaders.
The governor who did not name the religious leaders described them as “religious bandits” allegedly fond of misrepresenting facts with the view to incite their followers against his government.
“There are some religious leaders I call ‘religious bandits’, who are fuelling the bad situation we are experiencing here. How do they support that? By their rhetorics. If you do not have the facts about Benue and Nigeria, shut up; don’t just say something because you have the holy altar and oil to speak. Speak what you know and what can be verified,” the reverend-father-turned politician said.
