Students have cried out for justice following the alleged killing of an HND II student of ICT Polytechnic, Itori, Ogun State, Ahmed Sekinat, during a suspected armed robbery attack.
The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), South-West Zone, condemned the incident as “unfortunate and barbaric,” demanding a full investigation and urgent action to improve security around tertiary institutions.
Sekinat, a Marketing student, reportedly died after sustaining a severe machete injury during the attack, while several other students were said to have been injured.
NAPS, in a statement signed by its General Secretary, Musbau Mubarak, said the tragedy exposed the worsening security threats facing students on and around campuses.“No student should have to live in fear or lose their life while pursuing education,” the association said, stressing that protecting students remains the duty of government, security agencies and school authorities.
The student body also raised alarm over reports of a delayed security response, warning that any confirmed failure to act swiftly would amount to a serious breach of responsibility.
NAPS called on the Nigeria Police Force, Ogun State Government and ICT Polytechnic management to launch a transparent investigation, arrest and prosecute those behind the attack, while demanding tighter campus security and faster emergency response systems.
“The continuous rise in security threats facing students is unacceptable. Schools must remain safe environments where students can pursue academic excellence without fear,” the group stated.
The association condoled with Sekinat’s family, friends and the ICT Polytechnic community, prayed for the quick recovery of injured students, and vowed to continue its fight for student safety.
