The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun an urgent reproduction of ballot papers and result sheets for the Osun State governorship election following a court order directing the inclusion of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, Dr Francis Olugbenga Ajala, in the race.
INEC said the fresh materials are being produced to reflect Ajala and his running mate, Faseke Babajimi Oladipo, who were recently added to the list of candidates contesting the Saturday, August 15, 2026 election.
The electoral body disclosed this in a statement signed by its National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna.
According to INEC, the decision followed the judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja delivered on July 22, 2026, in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/344/2026, filed by the SDP and Ajala against the commission.
The court had ordered INEC to immediately recognise, accept, upload, process and publish the name and details of Ajala as the SDP governorship candidate.
Confirming the development, INEC said the reprinted ballot papers would arrive in Osun State on Thursday, August 13, and would be distributed the same day to its offices across the 30 local government areas and area councils in line with its election logistics plan.
The commission added that result sheets are also being reproduced to ensure that the SDP candidate’s name appears on all election materials.
With the addition of Ajala to the contest, the number of political parties participating in the Osun governorship election has risen to 15.
INEC assured candidates, political parties and voters that the adjustment would not affect its preparations, insisting that it remains committed to delivering a free, fair and credible election in the state.
