Kano governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has hit back at those criticising the state government for easing lockdown amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Kano has had an exponential rise in COVID-19 case, the second Nigeria’s epicentre of the virus after Lagos, necessitating President Muhammadu Buhari to slam a two-week lockdown on the state in a similar fashion to what he did in the country’s commercial capital, and Ogun State including Abuja.
But few days into the curfew Ganduje appealed to Buhari to water the restrictions down, a request the state realized but to the vituperation of many commentators.
The governor took the occasion of the state’s official flag-off of the distribution of facemasks on Monday to hit back at his critics describing them as ‘Abuja politicians’ and ‘noise makers’ who are oblivious to Kano people’s need.
He said: “I know some critics would say that we are relaxing the lockdown, but these critics are people who are in Abuja; they don’t know the complexity of our mega-city, they don’t know the needs of our people.
“Therefore, they make noises and think that they are making any useful contribution towards the eradication of coronavirus in the state.”
