Panic erupted at Gbagada Bus Stop, Lagos, after an Ikeja Electric Plc (IKEDC) worker reportedly suffered an electric shock while working on a power pole.
The technician was left dangling on an elevated ladder as stunned commuters and residents gathered below, anxiously watching the rescue operation.
A video circulating on social media on Thursday showed two of his colleagues battling to bring him down from the pole after the incident.
The worker appeared trapped on the ladder, with his head facing downward and part of his body caught in the structure. He could, however, be seen moving his arms and body as the other technicians worked desperately to free him.
An eyewitness, speaking in the video, said the worker had been shocked by electricity but was still alive as his colleagues attempted to bring him down.
The incident reportedly sent commuters and other onlookers into a panic, with several people gathering around the base of the pole to monitor the rescue.
The technician was eventually rescued, although his condition after the incident was not immediately confirmed.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the dangers faced by electricity workers who climb power infrastructure to carry out repairs and maintenance, particularly when lines are not properly isolated before work begins.
