Tragedy has hit the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, community after a senior law lecturer, Dr. Umar Sani Bebeji, was killed in a ghastly road crash along the Kaduna-Zaria Expressway.

The fatal accident reportedly happened around 9 a.m. on Saturday at Dumbin Rauga. His death was confirmed by his childhood friend and colleague, Zubairu Lawal Bamalle of ABU’s Faculty of Arts.

The 45-year-old academic was a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Commercial Law, Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Law, and Coordinator of the ABU Law Clinic, where he championed access to justice and clinical legal education.

Dr. Umar Sani Bebeji, who is survived by his wife and two children, was laid to rest at Kwanar Chanchangi Cemetery in Kaduna. Although his family hailed from Bebeji in Kano State, he spent his childhood in Tudun Wada, Kaduna.

Colleagues and former students paid glowing tributes to the late lecturer, describing him as a brilliant scholar, humble mentor and dedicated legal practitioner whose impact on legal education and justice advocacy will not be forgotten.
