Some former staff of Radio Port Harcourt (now WAVE FM) have instituted suits at the National Industrial Court, sitting in Yenagoa against the radio station, over unpaid salaries and other entitlements.
The five former staff, had earlier written a letter, dated September 11, to the station (the GM, Ify Onyegbule pictured) through their lawyer, Monima Karibi Whyte, Senior Partner of Coronation Chambers, for the payment of their outstanding entitlements but got no reply whatsoever from the station.
The lawyer has however in separate court processes sued 91.7 Radio Port Harcourt (now WAVE FM) on behalf of the former staff seeking the payment of their outstanding salaries ranging from four to eight months, their unpaid leave bonuses for the period of their service and unremitted compulsory contributory pension for the same period of time.
Monima KAribi Whyte further sought the court to order the station to pay various sums of money as compensation for the untold hardship the former employees were made to go through over the failure of the company to pay their salaries and allowances as at when due.
Some of the former employees lamented that during the period they were unable to meet their personal obligations to their various families and had to resort to begging, including to cater for their health needs.
These they concluded brought psychological trauma to them.
The lawyer to the plaintiffs, Monima Karibi Whyte disclosed that the court papers would soon be served WAVE FM while the national industrial court sitting in Yenagoa is expected to fix a date for the commencement of the hearing of the suits.
