The Federal Capital Territory committee on coronavirus said it will impress it on the federal government to consider the place of currency notes in the spread of coronavirus.
COVID-19 spreads through respiratory droplets with US’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, claiming it can survive for up to four hours on copper and up to 24 hours on cardboard, while on plastic and stainless steel for up to days could last for six days.
Claim is also rife that it is spread through currency notes, which the federal government is reportedly interrogating with the view to help shaped its policy in the war against the virus spread, a member of the FCT Taskforce on COVID-19 told Punchng.com in confidence.
The source told the paper that the committee was looking at the angle following spike in local transmission.
It quoted the source as saying: “For instance, one of the people who tested positive is a cook that has never travelled before.
“The cook’s boss recently returned from outside the country, but the boss tested negative. So, where did the cook get it from? We are also working on a report by the World Health Organisation that COVID-19 can be spread through currency.”
“We have submitted our report to the case management team, which will in turn submit a report to the emergency operational committee for final submission to the presidential task force.”
