The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved provisional licences for eleven new private universities.
The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa made this known on Monday sequel to the federal cabinet meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The minister said the universities made the cut having sailed through the processes the National Universities Commission, NUC, set in place.
“The ones that are being approved have gone through the rigorous process and have been in an advanced stage before now,” Alausa said.
The education minister gave the names of the universities as New City University, Ayetoro, Ogun State, University of Fortune, Igbotako, Ondo State, Eranova University, Mabushi, Minaret University, Ikirun, Osun Annex, Abubakar Toyin University, Oke-Agba, Kwara State and Southern Atlantic University, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Others are Lens University, Ilemona, Kwara State, Monarch University, Iyesi-Ota, Ogun State, Tonnie Iredia University of Communication, Benin City, Isaac Balami University of Aeronautics and Management, Lagos and Kevin Eze University, Mgbowo, Enugu State.
According to Alausa, President Tinubu is committed to expanding the frontiers of educational opportunities and infrastructure.
