The Senate has rationalised its inability to launch an investigation into allegation of sexual harassment Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan levelled against its President, Senator Godswill Akpabio.
Natash, sequel to her confrontation with the Senate President over seating arrangement on the hallow chamber went on air to allege that Akpabio subjected her to sexual harassment.
She also alleged the Senate President of discriminating against her because she declined his sexual advances.
The allegation divided public opinions, which in brief suggest that it’s typical of both with reference made to their past sex scandals.
The matter extended to the courts where Akpabio’s wife, Unoma, dragged Natasha to court following in the footstep of the Kogi Central Senator.
Speaking on ARISE TV on Monday, the Chairman Senate Committee on Media and Publicity, Senator Yemi Adaramodu (APC, Ekiti South), said the Senate would not step into the matter without a petition from the accuser.
“The Senate does not conduct its affairs based on what is trending on social media. There must be a formal petition or a matter raised before the Senate before any investigation can take place.
“There is presently no formal matter before the Senate regarding these allegations. The only issue before the Senate is Senator Natasha’s non-compliance with the standing orders,” Adaramodu declared.
