The days of endless queues and frustrating paperwork for birth and death registration may be over as the Federal Government has launched a new online platform for Nigerians.
The new digital platform, VitalReg, allows citizens to register births and deaths, apply for birth attestation, correct civil registration records and verify certificates from the comfort of their homes.
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) announced the development on Tuesday, saying the platform was launched by the Federal Government through the National Population Commission (NPC) as part of efforts to take civil registration services online.
With VitalReg, Nigerians no longer have to make unnecessary trips to registration centres for several services that can now be completed digitally.
The NOA said the platform was designed to make civil registration faster, easier and more accessible.
“The Federal Government, through the National Population Commission (NPC), has launched VitalReg — a fully digital platform that allows Nigerians to register births and deaths, apply for birth attestation, correct records, verify certificates and access other civil registration services online,” the agency said.
Driving home the point, the agency declared: “No more long queues or endless paperwork.”
The government also stressed the importance of registering births and deaths, saying proper civil registration gives citizens a legal identity and helps them access essential services.
These include healthcare, education, passports, financial services and other government programmes.
Nigerians can access the VitalReg self-service portal through selfservice.nationalpopulation.gov.ng.
Those who need assistance can still visit any National Population Commission registration centre across the country.
The launch is part of the Federal Government’s wider drive to digitise public services and modernise Nigeria’s civil registration system.
