An ongoing reforms by the National Judicial Council, NJC, would result in the sack of erring judges from next year when it will come into effect.

This is according to Tribune which revealed that NJC under the leadership of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun is working on a reform which application would root out erring judges.

As it stands, judges found wanting are only suspended with their sins forgotten.

The report says that from next year when the reforms become effective erring judges would get the boot.

Citing an unnamed sources, the publication wrote: “In the proposed new rule, instead of suspending indicted judges multiple times, those caught in serial misconducts will now be dismissed outright from the Bench.

“The top source who spoke with Sunday Tribune disclosed that unlike before when an errant judge could be suspended twice and still return to duty, a second (depending on the gravity of the offence) or third suspension for misconduct will now attract outright dismissal.

“It was learnt that the harsher penalty is contained in a new set of reforms the Kekere-Ekun leadership is prepping for release soon.”
