The Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, has attributed the insecurity plaguing the nation to alleged marginalisation of herdsmen.

The governor remarked this in an interview he granted BBC Hausa Service in which he claimed that the prevailing insecurity is partly born out of alleged maltreatment and marginalisation of pastoralist communities.

The said injustice, according to the NGF chairman, excited anger, frustration, and conditions exploited by criminal networks, saying for conflict resolution to take place, exclusion, lack of justice, and economic hardship must be addressed.

Gov. Yahaya also spoke of the resolve of the 19 northern governors to establish a joint regional security coordination agency, with each state contributing ₦1bn monthly to strengthen collective responses to kidnapping, banditry, and school closures.

Recall that the decision was reached during the Northern Governors’ meeting earlier in the week, in response to surge in attacks that have led to mass abductions and the shutdown of schools in several states in the region.
