The Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has given five wives of policemen and officers of the Department of State Services, who lost their lives in the state N1m each.
The five widows whose husbands died in the line of duty in the state were handed the money by the governor at a reception in Amawbia, on Tuesday.
In attendance at the event were children and relatives of the deceased.
Obiano said the gesture was to appreciate the slain police officers, adding that any security officer who paid the supreme price while serving in the state would be appreciated and recognised in such manner.
He urged the bereaved families to take solace in the fact that their departed loved ones would be remembered for their gallantry and assured them of his administration’s continuous support.
Speaking on behalf other widows, Mrs. Sophia Nguru, thanked Obiano for remembering them and giving them succour at a time like this, stating that God would reward the governor immeasurably.
