Sunderland and Sweden Under-21 striker Joel Joshghene Asoro has alerted England and Nigeria to his availability at international level.

The 18-year-old was born in Stockholm to Nigerian parents and has appeared five times for Sweden’s Under-21s.

The attacking midfielder joined the Black Cats in 2015. He made his senior debut last season in the match against Middlesborough when he replaced Duncan Watmor in the 81st-minute.

The teenage sensation who was shortlisted for the European Golden Boy award last season said the Nigerian Football Federation has contacted him, adding he could also switch allegiance to England.

‘They (Nigeria) have contacted me… ‘We will see what happens if I do not get into the A national team in Sweden. I’ll probably choose Nigeria. England is also a possibility. If I live in England for two more years, I can play for their national team.’ Asoro told SVT.
