A student of the University of Jos, identified as Ibrahim Pilasar Mbaya, has allegedly been tortured to death by fellow students after he was accused of stealing an iPhone.

The tragic incident reportedly occurred on Sunday at an off-campus apartment behind City of David in the Ring Road area of Jos, Plateau State.

According to reports, Mbaya had spent the night at a friend’s residence.

The following morning, his host allegedly accused him of stealing an iPhone 16, insisting that since they were the only two people in the room, he had to be responsible.

The accusation reportedly triggered hours of brutal torture and humiliation at the hands of other students.

A viral video of the incident shows the victim tied to an iron structure and suspended while he was repeatedly assaulted.

The attackers were also seen forcing him to use a teaspoon to transfer water from a bucket into another bowl, allegedly as part of the torture.

Reports said the prolonged assault left Mbaya unconscious.

His alleged tormentors reportedly invited a nurse in a desperate bid to revive him, but he was pronounced dead.

It remained unclear at the time of filing this report whether anyone had been arrested in connection with the incident.

The killing has sparked outrage on social media, with many Nigerians demanding the immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible.
