The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has faulted the declaration of embattled House of Representatives majority leader, Alhassan Doguwa as winner of Doguwa and Tudunwada Federal Constituency, Kano, in February 25 poll.
Doguwa is facing prosecution for the murder of three supporters of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) and the burning of the party’s office in his ward allegedly by him and hoodlums on his side during the poll.
The All Progressives Congress candidate is charged with the multiple murder and arson, and consequently arraigned, with the court granting him N500m bail and charging him to steer clear of coming Saturday’s election.
Professor Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai, the Returning Officer for the election, who initially declared the federal lawmaker infamous for flaunting his four wives to his colleagues in the green chamber during a session as mark of his manliness, said he made the pronouncement under threat.
Yakasai stated this on Wednesday at a press briefing where he said on account of total votes cancelled in 13 polling units that’s greater than the difference of 4,934 votes between the first and the runner up, that election is inconclusive.
On that score, the Returning Officer added that supplementary elections would be held in the affected polling units to determine the winner.
