The wife of the 2027 presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Atiku Abubakar, Titi Abubakar, has expressed concern over the worsening economic hardship in Nigeria, saying she wonders how ordinary Nigerians are surviving.
Speaking during a campaign rally in a video shared by TV Platinum on X on Friday, Titi criticised the state of governance and the economy under the current administration.
She said the country was facing serious challenges, particularly with the economy and rule of law.
“Now, today, we have no constitution. We have no rule of law. Nothing is working. Our economy is in shambles. And I wonder how people are living. I wonder how people are eating,” she said.
Titi also defended her husband’s decision to seek the presidency at nearly 80, arguing that Atiku was not motivated by personal wealth or the pursuit of power.
She said the former Vice-President had accumulated enough experience and resources and was seeking the presidency because he wanted to give back to society.
According to her, Atiku is an experienced politician and philanthropist who would not need to learn on the job if elected.
She further said her husband wanted to mentor younger Nigerians and prepare them for leadership.
Titi expressed confidence that Nigerians would eventually want Atiku to remain in office for another term, despite his reported plan to serve only one term.
She added that by the end of his tenure, Atiku would have mentored his deputy sufficiently for the person to succeed him.
