Muyiwa Adekeye, media adviser to Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has narrated that the former governor’s resisted arrest at Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport on Thursday.

Orijoreporter recalls that El-Rufai in his most recent interview with BBC Hausa Service accused the administration of President Bola Tinubu of persecuting opposition leaders.

He said four of his associates had been arrested and the same fate was hovering over him.

“Four people we worked together in Kaduna have been arrested; so it’s only a matter of time before they come for me too,” he remarked.

According to Adekeye, in a post on X, upon his(El-Rufai) arrival from Caira on Thursday, security agents at the airport set out to apprehend him but his conduct foiled their plan.

“Security agents today attempted to arrest Malam Nasir El-Rufai as he arrived on a flight from Cairo. Malam El-Rufai declined to follow them without a formal invitation,” the media aide wrote.

“They, however, snatched his passport from an aide,” he added.
