Nollywood star Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has opened up on the realities of her marriage, admitting that there are times she does not feel in love with her husband, Captain Matthew Ekeinde.

The actress, who has been married to the pilot since 1996, made the revelation while speaking with media personality Chude Jideonwo on With Chude.

Omotola said she and her husband have built their relationship around openness, understanding and conscious choice rather than the expectation that couples must be hopelessly in love every day.

According to her, there are moments when she looks at her husband and wonders why she chose him in the first place.

“There are times I look at him and I’m like, somebody needs to remind me why I chose this guy. Because right now I can’t remember.”

She went further, joking that she sometimes notices other attractive men but remains conscious of the choice she made.

“There are days I see guys too that are looking fantabulous and I’m like, whoo, oh child! I picked this one over you?”

The actress explained that her husband is aware of her personality and understands that marriage does not mean either partner ceases to be an individual.

She said the couple are open with each other and discuss their weaknesses and disagreements rather than pretending that everything is perfect.

Omotola also rejected the idea that married couples should place their union on a pedestal to the point where they cannot talk honestly about its difficult moments.

“Relax yourself, it’s not that serious. You’re just who you are. You’re a human being.”

She stressed that choosing someone as a life partner requires openness and communication, adding that shared values can make the journey easier.

For Omotola, the occasional loss of romantic feelings does not automatically mean the end of a marriage. Rather, she believes couples should understand that such moments can come and go while commitment, friendship and shared values keep the relationship together.

Omotola and Matthew celebrated 30 years of marriage in 2026, having tied the knot in 1996. The couple have four children.
