Former Osun State Governor and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has made a stunning personal revelation, declaring that he has remained faithful to his wife, Sherifat, throughout their marriage.

Aregbesola made the disclosure during an ADC campaign rally in Ejigbo Local Government Area of Osun State as political parties intensified their push ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

The former governor’s remarks, which were delivered in Yoruba, centred on his personal commitment to his marriage and his faith.

He told supporters that his decision to remain loyal to his wife was driven by his reverence for God.

Aregbesola said maintaining such a record was not something many men would easily claim, but insisted that his devotion to his faith had helped him keep his marital vow.

He told the gathering that he had asked God to judge his commitment, stressing that since marrying Sherifat, he had not been intimate with another woman.

In another spiritual declaration, the ADC chieftain expressed confidence that the Osun governorship bid of the ADC would succeed, saying he had committed the party’s aspiration to God.

The revelation came as campaigns entered a crucial stage ahead of the Osun governorship poll, which has attracted major political contenders across the state.

The election will see incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party seeking another term, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and ADC candidate, Najeem Folasayo Salaam, battle for the governorship seat.

The election is expected to hold across the 30 local government areas of Osun State on August 15, 2026.
