A female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has been crushed to death after an articulated truck allegedly rammed into several vehicles in Ibadan, Oyo State, leaving other road users injured.

The fatal accident occurred around Agodi Gardens on Monday, October 12, after the truck reportedly hit multiple vehicles around Sango before proceeding towards the Agodi area.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the death, disclosing that the crash involved an articulated truck and a motorcycle conveying the corps member.

Oyo State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Corps Commander Kehinde Dahunsi, who confirmed the incident in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said the motorcycle rider also sustained a fracture in his leg.

Dahunsi said emergency responders evacuated the victims, taking the corps member’s body to the State Hospital morgue while the injured motorcyclist was rushed to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, for treatment.

The tragedy reportedly followed a series of collisions around the Sango area, where eyewitnesses alleged that the truck had struck several vehicles before heading towards Agodi Gardens.

An eyewitness account indicated that the driver was allegedly attempting to escape after the earlier collisions when the truck rammed into the motorcycle carrying the corps member.

The circumstances surrounding the earlier crashes and the alleged attempt to flee had yet to be independently established.

Meanwhile, the accident caused traffic disruption around the affected areas, forcing motorists to take alternative routes as emergency responders attended to the victims.

The identity of the deceased corps member remained unknown as of the time of reporting.

The NYSC Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, Abimbola Faniyi, told NAN that efforts were underway to establish the deceased’s identity and Place of Primary Assignment (PPA).

It was not immediately clear whether the truck driver had been arrested or what caused the series of collisions.
