The Interior Ministry has warned Nigerians against a fake government circular promoting a proposed Peter Obi-Rabiu Kwankwaso presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.The controversial document, which circulated on social media, purportedly emanated from the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) and linked the ongoing recruitment exercise to a political message about the 2027 elections.
The circular claimed that delays in the recruitment process were caused by administrative hurdles requiring clearance from the Minister of Interior.It then made a dramatic political pitch, expressing hope that Nigerians would elect “visionary leaders” in 2027.
The document specifically cited “a leadership ticket such as Obi/Kwankwaso under the NDC platform” as an example of leadership that could transform governance, streamline government processes and reduce bureaucratic delays.But the government has disowned the document, describing it as false and unauthorised.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Head of Press and Public Relations of the CDCFIB, Okeh Juliet, said the purported circular did not originate from the Board or the Office of its Secretary.
“The Board wishes to dissociate itself from the purported statement and wishes to inform the public that it is false, unauthorised, and as such, did not originate from the Board or the Office of the Secretary to the Board,” she said.
The Board said the political undertones contained in the document were inconsistent with its official communication standards.
“The purported document contains political undertones which is not consistent with the official, non-partisan communication standards of the Board. Members of the public are advised to disregard it in its entirety,” the statement added.
The Board also rejected any suggestion that the fake circular represented the position of the Interior Ministry or its agencies.
It said the ministry, under Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, had continued to pursue institutional reforms and improved service delivery across agencies under its supervision.
According to the Board, the minister’s commitment to professionalism, accountability and citizen-centred governance remains focused on strengthening the nation’s internal security architecture and improving public confidence.
The development comes as political activities and possible alliances begin to attract increasing attention ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Board urged applicants participating in the ongoing recruitment exercise and members of the public to ignore the fake document and rely only on its official communication channels for authentic information.
