A 25-year-old woman, Maimuna Idris, has been remanded in a correctional centre in Kano for allegedly severing her boyfriend’s manhood after discovering that he planned to marry another woman.
Idris, who resides in Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa State, was arraigned before a Kano Magistrates’ Court on a two-count charge of attempted culpable homicide and causing grievous hurt.
The victim, identified as Ashiru Sani, was allegedly attacked at Durbar Hotel, Badawa Quarters, Kano, in a shocking incident that reportedly stemmed from a dispute over his alleged plan to marry another woman.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, the prosecution counsel, H.A. Sani-Buhari, told the court that the incident occurred on July 27.
The prosecutor said that at about 11 a.m. on the day of the incident, Idris allegedly used a sharp knife to sever Sani’s manhood after discovering his intention to marry another woman.
She told the court that the Badawa Police Division later received a report from the management of Durbar Hotel at about 12:50 p.m. that the defendant had allegedly attacked her boyfriend with a knife.
The injured man was immediately rushed to Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital, Kano, where he reportedly received medical treatment.
In a dramatic twist, Idris pleaded guilty to both charges when they were read to her in court.
The prosecution said the alleged offences contravened Sections 229 and 248 of the Penal Code.
However, Magistrate Saadiya Usman ordered that Idris be remanded in a correctional centre and adjourned the case until September 9 for further mention.
The case has attracted attention following the bizarre circumstances surrounding the alleged attack, with the court now set to determine the next stage of the proceedings.
