Lagos street sweeper helps uncover secret ritualists’ den

On the surface, the tunnel at Obadeyi Bus Stop in Ijaiye-Ojokoro area of Lagos State, seemed like every other. But beneath there was more to the tunnel than meets the eye as it and an uncompleted building close to it, housed suspected ritualists.

A street sweeper with the State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), responsible for sweeping close to the tunnel was architect to the unmasking of the dungeon.

The sweeper, eyewitnesses said, heard a woman shouting for help in a canal leading to the tunnel, and drew passers-by’s attention to it.

In the ensuing frenzy, two of the ritualists, who apparently were chasing their victim in the tunnel ran into the hands of the mob who lynched them to death,

Two other ritualist suspects were also apprehended and were almost mobbed to death but for police and soldiers who rescued them.

The DPO of Meiran Police Division, Chief Superintendent of Police Okoi A. Akpama, confirmed the incident.

On his part, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, explained that the police authorities had ordered some personnel to remain at the scene till the canal was fully accessed.
