Miscreants extorting money from pedestrians using the closed Oshodi Bridge in Lagos State have been arrested.
The video of the bridge loaded with pedestrians being extorted by street urchins went viral and sparked public outrage.
The heavy traffic on the bridge was occasioned by the closure of the pedestrian bridge linking Oshodi Bus Terminals 2 and 3.
However, the miscreants’ open act of extortion has incurred them arrest.
“Our attention has been drawn to the fact that miscreants have been extorting money from pedestrians on the Oshodi Bridge, which was closed by the authorities a few months ago because of structural issues.
“These individuals were arrested this morning, and we will continue to make further arrests if such activities persist.
“The other bridge is available for usage whilst the necessary repairs on the closed bridge is ongoing,” the State Commissioner for Transportation Oluwaseun Osiyemi said.
