Insinuation that former Enugu State governor, Chimaroke Nnamani orchestrated the killing of Enugu East Senatorial candidate of the Labour Party, Oyibo Chukwu, has prompted his denial.
Chukwu was murdered in cold blood alongside his Personal Assistant, with whom they occupied a car by pitiless gunmen at Eke-Out Amechi-Awkunanaw, Enugu South Local Government Area last Wednesday.
Springing from the LP candidate’s murder, the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, postponed the election relative to House of Representatives and the Red Chamber in Enugu East to March 11.
Nnamani, the Senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the election is facing indirect allegation of having hands in Chukwu’s murder with slur that his political group, Ebanor, has something to do with the heinous crime.
Chukwu’s brother, Arthur, had told of intelligence that the deceased shared with some persons that members of Ebenor group were trailing him before his killing.
Reacting to the accusation, the group through its zonal leader, Emmanuel Okwor denied responsibility for the dastardly act.
It said, the murder is peculiarly apolitical gunmen and Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB members, whose activities have spared non of the parties’ faithful.
“It is unfair and uncharitable to accuse the Ebeano family of this heinous crime. As much as we do not want to join issues with the family, we strongly take exception to this accusation.
“We have challenged the security operatives not to leave any stone unturned in the quest to unravel the circumstances of Chukwu’s murder to bring the perpetrators to justice. We are concerned about the deteriorating security situation and call on all citizens to cooperate with security agencies to get to the root of the matter. We do not expect reckless and unfounded accusations at this point,” Okwor remarked.
