The Obidient Movement has levelled victimisation of its members at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the latter’s war against naira abuse.

The allegation arose from EFCC’s interrogation of two prominent members of the movement, Peter Akah and Oruche Precious for allegedly abusing naira.

The duo were earlier detained but regained their freedom on Thursday, with the instruction to return for further questioning.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the movement described Peter and Precious’ ordeal has politically motivated and accused the EFCC of bias, and intimidation.

“This is a targeted attempt to intimidate key supporters of our principal, Mr Peter Obi, while the real criminals robbing Nigeria blind are given executive treatment,” the statement read.

The movement also criticised EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede, accusing the commission of turning blind eyes on high-profile corruption cases involving members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), while directing its attention towards Obi’s supporters.

“A serious agency would have beamed its searchlight on the Association of Past & Present Criminals (APPC), who have continued to find shelter in the APC.

“Nigerians already know that the easiest way to avoid any form of scrutiny is to join the APC. That is why anyone who has a major corruption case is more likely to join the party to escape the harassment of the EFCC,” the statement added.
