Billionaire businessman Femi Otedola has revealed that he shared a bunk bed with Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat during their boarding school days nearly five decades ago.

Otedola made the revelation after hosting a dinner in honour of Hamzat, who emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2027 Lagos State election.

In a post on his X account on Monday, the billionaire described Hamzat as a longtime friend whose character he had come to know over the years.

“Yesterday, I hosted dinner in honour of @DrObafemiHamzat, the incoming Governor of Lagos State. A man of the highest integrity, with whom I shared a bunk bed at boarding school 49 years ago,” Otedola wrote.

He said his longstanding relationship with Hamzat had given him insight into the deputy governor’s character, which he described in terms of honesty, sincerity, fairness and strong moral principles.

The dinner attracted some of Nigeria’s wealthiest businessmen, including Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, and BUA Group chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu.

Hamzat clinched the APC governorship ticket in May after polling 657,917 votes in the party’s Lagos primary, defeating his challenger, Olanrewaju Jim-Kamal, who secured one vote, according to the announced results.

The deputy governor, who has held office since 2019 under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is preparing to contest the 2027 election as he seeks to succeed his principal when Sanwo-Olu’s second term ends.
