A fresh controversy has erupted around the legacy of RCCG founder, Pa Josiah Olufemi Akindayomi, after his daughter, Pastor Titilayo Adewale, dramatically disowned a viral statement allegedly criticising the church’s leadership.
Adewale has declared: “I NEVER SAID THAT!”
The daughter of the late founder of the Redeemed Christian Church of God said the statement making the rounds on social media — in which she was allegedly quoted as accusing senior RCCG pastors of sidelining her father’s legacy — was completely false.
In a strongly worded statement posted on Facebook on Monday, Pastor Titilayo Adewale said she had neither directly nor indirectly made the controversial remarks.
“My attention has been drawn to a statement attributed to me regarding The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor E.A. Adeboye and the legacy of my father.
“I want to clarify that the statement attributed to me is not from me, either implicitly or explicitly,” she said.
The viral statement had reportedly claimed that some senior pastors in the RCCG did not even know that Akindayomi founded the church, while allegedly calling for greater recognition of his contribution.
But Adewale has now kicked back hard, insisting that such a campaign would be completely contrary to her father’s values.
According to her, the RCCG founder was never obsessed with monuments, buildings or having his name plastered across institutions.
“For the record, Baba’s image or no image on any edifice on earth is nothing compared to making Heaven with his full face being recognised,” she declared.
And she did not stop there.
Adewale revealed that her father placed far greater value on building people than building structures, insisting that the people he transformed were his real legacy.
“Regarding legacy, the most significant legacy is not buildings or institutions but individuals. My father consistently believed in building people rather than merely constructing buildings,” she said.
She also recalled that Akindayomi was so uninterested in material possessions that he was reluctant to own even a personal house.
“He never believed in acquiring wealth or earthly possessions. It was a challenge to convince my father to own a building because he was not convinced of its value.
“If he was unwilling to own a personal residence, how could he or any child be bothered if his name is not associated with buildings or institutions? It doesn’t add up,” she said.
‘STOP SOWING DISCORD!’
Adewale then turned her attention to those behind the viral reports, accusing them of attempting to stir unnecessary controversy within the church.
She insisted the reports were not about her, her father or RCCG leadership, but were designed to cause division.
“In my opinion, this news and similar ones are not about me, my father or even the leadership of the RCCG. Instead, they are intended to create unnecessary arguments and discord.
“Their purpose is to divert attention from the divine work being carried out and sow discord among us,” she warned.
The pastor urged those circulating the alleged statement to stop spreading what she described as false narratives and misinformation.
ADEBOYE GETS HER BACKING
In a major show of support for the RCCG leadership, Adewale also prayed for General Overseer Pastor Enoch Adeboye, his family and the church’s leadership.
Rather than criticising Adeboye, she called for prayers for him and the continued success of the church.
“I pray for continued support and strength for Pastor E.A. Adeboye and his family. I pray that God will enhance the wisdom of the leadership of the RCCG.
“Wishing the RCCG family worldwide a successful convention. Shalom!” she said.
The dramatic denial comes amid growing attention on the history and legacy of the RCCG’s late founder, but Adewale’s message is clear: she wants no controversy built around her father’s name — and no division within the church.
