A 29-year-old man, Abubakar Musa, has been arrested by the Kebbi State Police Command over the alleged desecration of the Holy Qur’an in Zuru Local Government Area.
Musa, who lives in Rafin Mose Village, Zuru, was arrested following allegations bordering on criminal conspiracy, abuse of religious books, use of spells and hypnosis, and conduct capable of causing public disturbance.
According to the police, the incident happened around 7pm on August 9, 2026, in the Zango area of Zuru.
The command’s spokesman, Bashir Usman, said preliminary investigations linked Musa to two other suspects, identified as Rabi’u Tela, husband of Zarau Hassan, and Hamza Zango, who are currently on the run.
Police alleged that the trio dug a hole inside Zarau Hassan’s room and buried a copy of the Qur’an with semen, white and red kolanuts, underwear, dead animals and other items described as fetish materials.
Investigators reportedly believe the bizarre act was intended to make Zarau Hassan submissive to her husband, Tela.
The police also said the alleged desecration had the potential to spark anger and trigger a breakdown of peace among Muslim faithful in the community.
While Musa remains in police custody, the command said efforts were ongoing to track down the two fleeing suspects.
The suspect is expected to be taken to court after the completion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, Umar Hadejia, condemned the alleged act and warned residents against actions capable of inflaming religious tension or threatening public order.
Hadejia said the command would take lawful action against anyone whose conduct endangers religious harmony, peaceful coexistence and public safety.
