A Kano man allegedly marked for death by his own family has dramatically resurfaced after a suspected hitman reportedly exposed the plot and helped him stage his own “death”.
Nura Usman and his mother, Izzatu Aminu, have been dragged before a Magistrate Court in Nomansland, Kano, over allegations that they conspired to kill Nura’s father, Alhaji Usman Shanono.
The pair are facing charges bordering on conspiracy and attempted murder following claims that an assassin was engaged to eliminate Shanono at Dantsinke Quarters.
The suspected killer was allegedly offered ₦500,000 for the job but, instead of carrying out the attack, reportedly alerted Shanono about the alleged plan.
The two men then allegedly devised a ruse to convince the accused that Shanono had been killed.
As part of the deception, the suspected hitman reportedly took Shanono’s wristwatch and other belongings and returned with them as evidence that the assignment had been completed.
The accused allegedly believed the story and began telling relatives and sympathisers that Shanono was dead, triggering preparations for mourning.
But the alleged murder plot soon turned into a shocker when Shanono walked into the scene alive and accompanied by security personnel.
His appearance reportedly exposed the alleged plan and revealed that the supposed killing had been staged.
The case was brought before Magistrate Sakina Amina Yusuf, who adjourned proceedings until September 7, 2026.
