The Federal Government has given publishers, authors and other stakeholders one final chance to submit textbooks for the 2026 national ranking exercise, extending the deadline to August 7, 2026.

The Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) announced the extension on Friday, saying the new deadline covers submissions for the 2026 Phase I assessment, reassessment and ranking exercise.

The extension comes after the earlier July 3 deadline and is aimed at giving more players in the book industry an opportunity to participate in the nationwide textbook evaluation.

NERDC Executive Secretary, Prof. Salisu Shehu, said the additional window was approved under the Federal Ministry of Education to ensure broader participation in the exercise.

The council urged publishers and authors yet to submit their materials to seize the opportunity and comply with the requirements contained in the Textbook Quality Indicators and Submission Guidelines.

According to NERDC, the guidelines remain unchanged and are available on its official website.

But the council warned that there would be no more extensions after August 7.

It said any submission received after the deadline would be rejected, urging all intending participants to act before the final window closes.

The National Textbook Ranking System is part of the Federal Ministry of Education’s reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at improving the quality of textbooks and instructional materials used in basic and secondary schools.
