The Senate said it will tinker with the 1999 constitution to give room to the implementation of the Supreme Court judgement on local government autonomy.
The plan was made known by a statement Jackson Udom, the Special Assistant on Media to Senate President, Godswill Akpabio released.
In it, Udom said Akpabio on Thursday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State received some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who were loyal to a former interim national secretary of the party, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe.
At the occasion, according to the spokesperson, the Senate President lauded President Bola Tinubu over the local government autonomy issue, and laid bare the Senate’s resolve to ensure the implementation of the apex court’s judgment.
“I thank President Bola Tinubu, for looking for a way to bring the all needed autonomy to the local governments through the intervention of the Supreme Court.
“The Senate, under my leadership will tinker with the constitution to ensure that the judgment is fully implemented without any loopholes for manipulation by the practitioners,” he echoed Akpabio’s remark.
