Rumour swirling around the authorities of the University of Lagos, Unilag, that it is making deliberate efforts not to serve justice in the sex-for-mark scandal involving two senior lecturers of the school, Dr. Boniface Igbeneghu, and Dr. Samuel Oladipo, has drawn the reaction of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe.

Igbeneghu and Oladipo were suspended by the institution after it broke out that they offered admission and mark respectively in exchange for sex with a panel set up by the authorities to investigate them.

However, report emerged that the authorities have the plan in mind to sweep the matter under the carpet and acquit the alleged randy lecturers, an insinuation Prof. Oogundipe dismissed in an interview he granted newsmen on Friday.

The Vice-chancellor also brought the journalists up to speed with the development as regard the infamous cold room where lecturers allegedly lured their victims to.

He said: “We have set up an administrative panel to probe the matter after the lecturers accused of wrongdoing have been queried and subsequently suspended. It is the report of the panel that will be taken to the Governing Council. Nobody is being covered up or needlessly protected because we know the whole world is watching.

“The place being referred to as the ‘Cold Room’ is a function room used by members of the Senior Staff Club and after we initially shut it down, we called the leadership of the club and gave them further directives on how to run the place. Now, no student is allowed there.”
