A bizarre sex drama has thrown parts of Ile-Ife, Osun State, into confusion after a vigilante member identified as Sunday, popularly known as Apetu, reportedly died shortly after a sexual encounter with a woman.
The disturbing incident occurred around 2:30pm on Sunday in the Odi-Olokun area of Ile-Ife, with the woman subsequently arrested and taken to the Moore Police Division for questioning.
According to a situation report attributed to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Apetu suddenly developed severe distress after the sexual encounter.
A video circulating on social media showed the man apparently struggling for his life on Ooni Ilare Street. In the footage, he was said to have been gasping, screaming and pleading with the woman to give him urine.
The drama reportedly attracted attention from residents as the man’s condition deteriorated rapidly.
He eventually died, while his remains were deposited at the morgue of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife, for further examination.
‘THUNDERBOLT’ CLAIM CAUSES STIR
The sudden death has triggered wild speculation in the community, with some residents reportedly attributing it to what they described as a traditional “thunderbolt”.
The claim, however, remains unverified. There is no official confirmation that any supernatural phenomenon was responsible for Apetu’s death, while authorities have yet to announce a medical cause.
The police have consequently urged residents to avoid jumping to conclusions or spreading claims capable of inflaming tension.
A senior officer of the Osun State Police Command confirmed that the command was aware of the reports making the rounds on social media but cautioned the public against relying on unverified information.
The NSCDC also confirmed the incident, with its spokesperson, ASC I Kehinde Adeleke, acknowledging the development.
POLICE PROBE UNDERWAY
With the woman now in police custody, investigators are expected to establish what happened before, during and after the sexual encounter and determine the circumstances surrounding the vigilante member’s sudden death.
Authorities are yet to establish that the woman had any role in causing his death.
For now, the bizarre incident has left residents of Ile-Ife asking one major question: What really happened to Apetu?
Police and medical authorities are expected to provide clearer answers as investigations continue.
