The Lagos State Government has shut Chrisland School at Opebi-Ikeja following the controversy that trailed the death of its pupil, Whitney Adeniran, at the school’s inter-house sports at Agege Stadium last Thursday.
The controversy proceeded from the circumstances surrounding Whitney’s death, with the school insinuating she was sick and consequently slumped to death in the full view of the public at the stadium.
The parents of the deceased 12-year-old refuted those claims, pronouncing their daughter to be in good health as at the time the school bus picked her at home.
They also alleged that she died of electrocution from an uncovered electric wire connected to a vendor’s candy flox machine at the stadium.
The long and short of it, the distraught Adenirans are seeking justice for their dear departed daughter, prompting the police to step into the matter and launched investigation into it.
In a related development, the Lagos State government has hit Chrisland with temporary closure.
The action is the substance of a statement the former posted on its Instagram page.
It reads, “A release signed by the State Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo said the closure was ordered pending the outcome of a full investigation into the unfortunate incident.”
