The management of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, in Kogi State, has expelled two students over allegation that are into same-sex relationship.
It also suspended four others for one academic session for fighting on campus.
The disciplinary measures were approved at the university’s 31st Regular Senate Meeting following recommendations by the Students’ Disciplinary Committee, according to a statement issued on Friday by the institution’s Information and Protocol Unit.
“The Management of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, has approved the expulsion of two students for involvement in gay practice and the rustication of four others for one academic session over acts of fighting on campus,” the statement said.
According to the university, the affected students have been formally notified through letters signed by the Deputy Registrar (Academics), Eli Gbadafu. It added that the sanctions were imposed in line with the provisions of the institution’s Students’ Handbook, Second Edition, as amended in 2025.
The two expelled students were identified as Onumoko Hamza of the Department of Biology Education and Abdulazeez Eneji of the Department of Mining Engineering.
Meanwhile, the four students rusticated for one academic session over fighting are Favor Akowe of the Department of Microbiology, Simbiat Babamuharuna of the Department of Biology, Zainab Omayoza of the Department of Biochemistry, and Sukura Bukola, also of the Department of Biochemistry.
The university said the disciplinary actions reflect its commitment to maintaining discipline, order, and a conducive environment for teaching and learning.
“The University Management reiterated its commitment to maintaining discipline, order and a conducive environment for teaching and learning,” the statement added.
The institution also warned that it would continue to take disciplinary action against any student found to have violated its rules and regulations.
“Students are therefore advised to familiarise themselves with the provisions of the Students’ Handbook and conduct themselves in accordance with the established rules and regulations of the University,” the statement said.
