The presidency is again bereaved following the death of President Muhammadu Buhari’s bodyguard, Warrant Officer Lawal Mato.
Mato’s death is coming three days after Buhari lost his Chief of Staff, Mallam Abba Kyari to coronavirus pandemic at aged 67.

However, unlike Kyari’s, Mato died of diabetes, a statement by the President’s
Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu said.
The statement read in part: “After three years of struggling with diabetes, one of President Muhammadu Buhari’s bodyguards, Warrant Officer Lawal Mato, on Tuesday passed away.
WO Mato also worked with late Umaru Musa Yar’adua while the deceased was Nigeria’s president as personal security and according to the statement, he had been off full duty for three years, treating diabetes.
