FG bans websites hosting outside Nigeria

The Federal Government said henceforth all Nigerian government websites must be hosted in the country, Technology Times reports.

It said the mandatory requirement for local hosting of government websites is one of the highlights of standards and guidelines on Nigerian Government Websites by National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).

The report said in the guidelines, government institutions are also to use the .gov.ng domain anmes strings for their website to ensure uniformity and compliance with best practices in the domain name industry.

“In compliance with the Government Domain Name Policy, all Government Websites must use .gov.ng exclusively”, the report quoted the rules, adding, “The above naming Policy applies to all Government Websites irrespective of where they are hosted. Also based on the extant rules as stipulated in the Regulatory Guidelines for Nigeria Content Development of 2013, all Government Services and Websites must be hosted in Standards and Guidelines for Government Websites in Nigeria.”
