Senate President Godswill Akpabio has shared insight into what led former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele to have a shot at succeeding the then President Muhammadu Buhari.
Emefiele had signified intention to contest for the presidency on the platform of ruling All Progressives Congress while he was in the saddle of the CBN.
The action considered strange and inappropriate became a matter of litigation at the instance of the disgrace bank chief who took Independent Electoral Commission to court.
Akpabio took the Tuesday’s occasion of the screening of Emefiele’s successor, Olayemi Cardoso and his deputies to recount the past.
The Senate President remarked that the naira swap during the immediate past governor’s times was politically motivated saying, “Nowhere in the world is a currency changed within one week. But the CBN changed the Naira in 11 days just to sabotage the elections, and because some politicians told him that you can contest for election after all you have money with you.”
