The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, said his Labour Party counterpart, Peter Obi, left the PDP because of the governors elected on the platform of the party.

Atiku, smarting from his loss in Saturday’s presidential election at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, advanced reason for Obi’s defection to Labour Party on enquiry, and whether he would be willing to work with the former Anambra State governor, the latter he answered affirmatively.

“He’s welcome to dialogue with the PDP on forming an alliance,” he said.

After ditching PDP to join Labour Party, Obi became a general favourite with the youths and many non-partisan persons, culminating in his good show at the poll where he recorded over six million votes and won some traditional APC and PDP states including Lagos State.

He left the PDP because he was incapable of political negotiations and couldn’t bear the PDP governors’ desire to choose the party standard bearer among themselves, according to the former vice president.

His actual words, “You negotiate for power, you don’t fight for it. I think Peter Obi was in a rush. When the campaign started and our PDP governors said, ‘They must produce the president among them,’ he got scared and left (PDP). I didn’t get scared and stood up against the governors.”
