A 25-year-old woman, Musa Zainab Abeke, has been dragged to court after allegedly collecting N420,000 from a woman desperate to conceive, under the guise of providing a herbal remedy to help her get pregnant.
Abeke was arraigned before an Ejigbo Magistrate Court in Lagos on a two-count charge of obtaining money under false pretences and stealing.
The alleged transaction took place on July 21, 2026, in Ijegun, Lagos, according to the prosecution.
Police prosecutor, ASP Simon Njue, told the court that Abeke allegedly collected the N420,000 from Deborah Olukoya, after promising to provide a herbal remedy that would help her conceive.
But instead of delivering the promised remedy, the defendant allegedly converted the money to her personal use.
The police alleged that Abeke knew the representation was false when she collected the money.
However, Abeke pleaded not guilty to the two charges.
ASP Njue informed the court that investigations were still ongoing and sought an adjournment to enable the prosecution present its evidence.
Presiding Magistrate F.R. Ogunkoyode granted Abeke bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties in like sum.
The court directed the sureties to provide evidence of their means of livelihood and proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
Abeke was, however, ordered to remain at the Correctional Centre, Kirikiri, pending fulfilment of the bail conditions.
The case was adjourned until September 26, 2026, for trial.
