A tragic road crash claimed the life of a female driver after her vehicle suddenly veered off the road and smashed into a building along the busy Mongoro inward Ile-Zik corridor in Lagos State.

The horrific accident involved a Toyota Sienna with registration number LND 162 HB.

According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), preliminary findings revealed that the woman lost control of the vehicle before it left the highway and rammed into a roadside building with devastating force.

The impact was so severe that the woman, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, died on the spot.

LASTMA officials on routine patrol rushed to the scene, cordoned off the crash site with safety cones and diverted traffic to prevent further accidents while emergency responders evacuated the wreckage.

Although the crash caused temporary traffic disruption, normal movement was restored shortly after the rescue operation. Security personnel from the Afonka Police Post under the Shasha Divisional Police Headquarters also provided security throughout the evacuation.

Reacting to the tragedy, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, described the incident as a painful reminder of the deadly consequences of speeding and reckless driving.

“No destination is worth the ultimate sacrifice of human life,” he said, urging motorists to obey traffic rules and drive with patience and caution.

Bakare-Oki also advised drivers to ensure their vehicles are in good mechanical condition before hitting the road, warning that ignoring faults could prove fatal.

LASTMA extended its condolences to the family of the deceased and prayed for them to find the strength to bear the painful loss.
