PDP chieftain threatens lawsuit over Maitama mansion allegation, blasts FCT minister in explosive TV interview
A fresh war of words has erupted between Peoples Democratic Party chieftain, Chief Bode George, and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, with the former launching a blistering counterattack over allegations surrounding his Abuja residence.
George, a former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP, did not hold back during a TVC interview, accusing Wike of making reckless allegations about his Maitama property and threatening to drag the minister to court.
The political heavyweight went as far as making a highly personal claim about Wike, alleging that the minister had once been publicly disowned by his biological father.
George said he found it beneath his status to trade words with Wike, whom he described as being around the age of his first child.
He then made the explosive allegation about Wike’s family background, asking Nigerians to investigate what he claimed had happened between the minister and his father.
According to George, the alleged public rejection by a biological father was a serious matter in African culture.
The PDP chieftain also lashed out at Wike over the minister’s claim that his Maitama residence was acquired with Rivers State funds.
George dismissed the allegation as baseless and insisted that the property had nothing whatsoever to do with Rivers State.
He explained that he did not build the house but bought the already-completed property through an agent from its previous owner, whom he identified as a retired civil servant.
George challenged Wike to explain how Rivers State could possibly have been connected to the transaction.
He also questioned why the minister would link his personal property to Rivers State, asking whether the state was a bank from which he could borrow money.
In an extraordinary outburst, George accused Wike of talking nonsense and questioned his state of mind while reacting to the allegation.
He said his initial reaction was that Wike needed to be taken to a psychiatric hospital, although he later framed the minister’s comments as reckless and thoughtless.
The former PDP deputy national chairman declared that the matter would not end with an exchange of words.
George threatened to sue Wike over what he described as defamatory allegations, saying he would seek legal redress over the minister’s comments.
He also took aim at Wike’s relationship with President Bola Tinubu, urging people around the President to distance him from the FCT minister.
George argued that Wike was not providing useful advice to the President and suggested that the minister had damaged his own standing.
Asked whether he would reconcile with Wike if the survival of the PDP required them to work together, George appeared dismissive, suggesting that the relationship had deteriorated beyond repair.
HOW THE WAR STARTED
The latest political showdown was triggered by Wike’s comments during his monthly media chat in Abuja on Tuesday.
While defending himself against accusations of corruption and criticism of his style of governance, the FCT minister turned his attention to George and challenged him to explain the source of funds used to acquire his Maitama residence.
Wike alleged that the property was connected to money belonging to Rivers State.
He argued that politicians who accuse others of corruption should also be ready to account for their own assets and sources of wealth.
But George has now rejected the allegation outright and threatened legal action.
The explosive exchange has added another chapter to the increasingly bitter confrontation between the two senior PDP figures, with George’s latest response taking the feud into deeply personal territory.
Meanwhile, Wike used the same media briefing to defend his administration’s infrastructure programme in the FCT.
He said contracts should only be awarded when governments have the financial capacity to complete them, insisting that completed projects—not the number of contracts awarded—should be the measure of performance.
The minister warned that projects launched without adequate funding could be abandoned, leaving communities with unfinished infrastructure and mounting liabilities.
