Popular female drummer Aralola Olamuyiwa better known as Ara, has said that she gave up university education twice including a law degree to pursue her drumming career.
The leading female talking drummer told newtelegraphonline.com that she started drumming at age 5 and followed her heart even when she gained admission to university.
“My dad wanted me to be a lawyer because I was very brilliant and intelligent. Of course, I got into school to study Law, I did it for a year at the University of Ilorin, and I left at the end of the first year because I wasn’t comfortable. I was apparently doing it solely for my father. I was always at the performing arts department where Mama Sofola was having rehearsals with the students.
“I went back to study English Language at the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma. I was in my first semester in the third year when a management company signed me up and I had to take a transcript from there to Lagos (their satellite office at a time, but I never attended the classes) because I was in and out of the country, I had to let go because music was a bigger dream for me. As far as I was concerned, you could always return to education at any point in your life, but that opportunity wasn’t what I could miss,” Ara related how she dropped out of school.
